If you choose to perform a restore without attempting to recover your password you will most likely be required to upgrade your iPhone to the latest firmware version. Many people aren’t concerned by this but if you happen to own a device which has been jailbroken then you will lose your Cydia app and may not be able to get it back until a new jailbreak is released.
In order to use the software required for recovering your password you will need not just an eligible device but a very specific computer configuration. In some cases it may be possible to use a few variations but the Gecko Toolkit works best with the following:
- Windows 7- This is an absolute requirement.

- 32-bit version- You might be able to use the 64-bit version if you are familiar with command line prompts.
- Java- There is some question as to which version works. I am running 7.0.30.5 without any issues.
- Microsoft .NET 4.0- You need this to run the Gecko Toolkit.
- 5.0.1 IPSW for your device- Regardless of what version you have this one must be used for the password recovery.
- RedSn0w- This is a tool typically used for jailbreaking and must run during the process.
It is also important that you have the right device as you don’t want to waste time trying to recover a password with something that isn’t on the list of eligible devices. I get emails and messages on YouTube daily asking if this works with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 4 and so on. It absolutely will not recover a forgotten password on anything not listed and it will not work on a Mac period. The only exception to this rule would be if you have installed dual operating systems on your Mac and can boot into Windows 7.
If you haven’t already done so you should definitely watch the official Smartphonepassword.com instructional video which demonstrates how to perform the procedure. Once you are familiar with the process, have downloaded all of the required files and are certain that your computer meets all of the specifications listed above then you should attempt to recover your forgotten iPhone password. You may or may not succeed the first time. In some cases your phone will behave in unexpected ways and we take no responsibility for any damage that you might cause regardless of whether or not you follow the instructions to the letter. That said I should point out that I do not know of a single case where the Gecko Toolkit has caused any sort of damage to an iPhone, iPad or iPod while attempting to recover a forgotten password.

Fluid is a WebKit2-based site-specific browser (SSB) for Mac OS X created by Todd Ditchendorf.[2][3] Its original WebKit-based version was compared to Mozilla Prism and mentioned in Lifehacker,[4] TechCrunch,[5][6][7] 43 Folders,[8] the 37 Signals blog,[9] and on InfoWorld[10] as a way to make web applications more like native desktop applications.
1.0 milestone[edit]
On May 1, 2011, Fluid 1.0 was released with a completely new codebase. Fluid Apps created with previous versions of Fluid cannot be updated via software update and SSBs have to be re-created with Fluid 1.0 (to transition to version 1.0 and later).[11] While version 1.0 is still a free app, a Fluid License can be purchased which will unlock extra features (some previously included by default in previous versions). On July 4, 2011, version 1.2 was released and featured compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.[12]

2.0 milestone[edit]
In July 2018, Fluid underwent another rewrite[13] to take advantage of Apple's newer WebKit2 API with process separation[14], with the same licensing terms as 1.x versions. Subsequent minor versions restored feature support and added support for Dark Mode.
